ArtPrize

2010 ArtPrize: ArtPrize is the biggest art competition in the world and takes place in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  There are 1600 artists from all over the world who compete for a total of $500,000.  In my first ArtPrize experience, I exhibited “Calm Cecropia” [photography on aluminum] with the Grand Valley Artists on Division Avenue.

2011 ArtPrize: I exhibited at the Lyon Den with “Michigan’s Infinite Beauty”,

2013 ArtPrize: I exhibited at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum with four photographs printed on aluminum of the Grand Canyon.

2014 ArtPrize: I exhibited at Oppenheimer & Co. in the first west window, facing north with “The World War II of Jack A. Drew”, a collage I created from my Father’s original WWII items.  It was printed on a 4’ x 4’ canvas and was well received from visitors I greeted.

Articles about my collage, my Father and me were written in the Lansing State Journal and mLive.com.

In 2016 this art was purchased by Lansing Community College in Lansing, Michigan and now hangs in the Veterans’ Memorial area.

2015 ArtPrize:  I exhibited at the Women’s City Club with an abstract titled, “A Distracting Abstraction.”  It was 5’x5’ in size and was a triptych grouping of three photographs of a spiral staircase [a fire escape] that I took in Sweden.  I converted it to high contrast and had it printed with black ink on three bare aluminum sections; a heavy gloss was then applied.

2016 ArtPrize:  I was invited to exhibit at the Fifth Third Bank/Warner Norcross & Judd LLC venue. My entry was a joint project with my husband, Carl Brown, who did the welding for it.  I designed this project, which was the upper, and Lower Peninsula of Michigan welded out of steel and painted black.  I then hung eighty-five of my nature photos printed on 5” x 5” aluminum squares to cover the metal sculpture in its entirety.

2017 ArtPrize:  I exhibited at Panera Bread Restaurant in Grand Rapids, Michigan for my seventh ArtPrize experience. I entered five aluminum prints and hung them in a collage form on the wall.  The pictures were taken in Page, Arizona of the Antelope Canyon.  This slot canyon offered a variety of abstract shots with beautiful colors as the sun reached down into the  cracks in the sandstone crust.
